10th February 2011 Following their promotion last season Ely 2 have found it wins few and far between after getting used to winning ways last season. Last weekend saw a return to winning ways in a well deserved victory over Icons 4. The following report appeared in the Ely Standard on Thursday 10th February 2011. Ely 2 (39) Icons 3 (35) Ely secured a much needed win over Icons at the weekend with shooting pair Janice Quarrier and Sally Shipley converting some excellent goals in tough conditions. Ely started the brighter and were 4 goals up within minutes of the start but Icons rallied and scores were level at the break. The second quarter saw Ely edge ahead with some excellent interceptions from player of the match Sue Everett with Debbie Knott and Sue Tune feeding Quarrier and Shipley to enable them to slot home. Icons started the second half much the brighter side and Ely went into the last quarter trailing by a solitary goal. The final quarter was Ely’s best with trio Alison Crombie, Victoria Cutforth and Celeste Gordon tirelessly defending to frustrate and thwart Icons’ chances. An excellent team performance saw Ely clinch victory by 4 goals.
